Add Students for Late Detention

Quickly Assign Detention for Repeat or Unexplained Lates

Before using this feature, please ensure:

The Detention Manager has been fully set up (Time Slots & Reasons created)

You have the correct Access & Permissions in place

If you have not completed setup yet, please follow this guide first.

Step-by-Step: Add Students to Detention from Lates

1. Log In

  • Go to uniqueschoolapp.ie and log in.

2. Go to Lates

Under Attendance Overview, click Lates.

By default, you will see all lates for today, including:

  • Late Notes
    • Parent has submitted a note
    • Student may or may not have signed in on the tablet
    • Marked as Explained Late if student signs in
  • Late Requests
    • Student signed in without a note
    • Parent has not yet explained the late
    • Marked as Unexplained Late if no explanation is received

Using Filters (Recommended Best Practice)

The filtering system makes this process extremely efficient.

Example Best Practice:

Most schools review last week’s lates, filter for unexplained lates, and assign detention to students with 2 or more lates. Our system allows you do this in less than 1 minute.

Step 1: Set Date Range

  • Set Date Range: Last Week

Step 2: Filter by Authorisation Status

Set Authorisation Status to:

  • Pending
  • Unauthorised

What these mean:

  • Pending – Student signed in late without a note, and parent has not yet explained
  • Unauthorised – Parent received alert but did not authorise the late

Example of Unauthorised:
Student was dropped off on time but leaves school grounds and returns late.

Optional Setting – Limit Late Authorisation Time

If you would like to restrict how long parents can explain a late (e.g. same-day only), we can enable this.

Example:
Student signs in late at 9:30am. Parent must authorise before 4:00pm that day.

This prevents parents from explaining lates weeks later.

Contact: staffsupport@uniqueschools.ie if you would like this enabled.

Step 3: Filter by Number of Lates

  • Use the Late Arrivals ≥ filter.

For example:

  • Enter 2
  • This will show students with 2 or more lates within your selected date range

Adding to Detention

  • Review the filtered Late List
  • Tick the students you wish to add to Detention
  • You can use Select All beside the Student Name column
  • Click Add to Detention
  • Select an existing Detention session
    OR
  • Create a new one

Important:
You cannot create a recurring detention from this screen.
Recurring detentions must be created in the Detention Manager, then selected here.

  • Click Submit
